Exploring
The Great Outdoors..
Outdoor play is
vital for child development. At Daintry Hall we have a large,
secure garden for the children to explore. Within the nursery
curriculum, activities planned extend to the outdoors. Children
are encouraged to participate and experiment with a wide range
of activities and mediums from making rubbings of stones,
bark etc, making collages with leaves, twigs and acorns, to
having fun splashing in the paddling pool!
Outdoor play equipment encourages children to
practice their physical skills and to gain more confidence
in their abilities. Well supervised activities allow the children
to experiment with a variety of climbing apparatus, tents
and tunnels and sit and ride toys. Team members organise games
to encourage cooperation, sharing and turn taking amongst
the children as well as more relaxing times with teddy bears
picnics and story times on the lawn!
Great care is taken in the sun; we have sun
proof awnings and shady places in the garden for the very
young! Don’t forget to bring sun hats and sun cream
too! During the autumn and winter time the children are encouraged
to bring along a pair of Wellingtons boots to crunch through
the leaves and snow and warm outdoor clothing into the nursery
to allow full use of the outdoors.
We aim to enhance the children’s sense
of wonder at the natural world with the beautiful countryside
in which the nursery is set. Children can walk and explore
the quiet lane alongside team members and observe the undulating
fields, animals, trees and plants. Children use magnification
aids to look closely and compare the beetles, worms and slugs
they find under fallen logs and to record their findings on
return to the nursery.
