The Playroom...

At approximatley two years of age your child will move into the playroom. The transition from the Baby & Toddler Unit is sensitively managed and timed according to your childs individual needs. Your Key Person will discuss the move beforehand with you and take into account your wishes.

At this stage, children are beginning to learn social skills and enjoy being together and making friends. Playing with other children is an important new area for learning; activities encourage children to cooperate with one another and understand about taking turns. The role play centre and book corner provide and ideal place to sit and chat with our friends. Within the Playroom children are encouraged to explore a wide range of open ended resources at their own pace. They use their creativity through exploration and discovery as they experiment with natural materials such as wood, cones, seeds and leaves.

Story time is a firm favourite with the children as they enjoy participating in telling stories with the use of puppets, soft toys and real objects as props. The children have favourite stories and songs they like to hear again and again.

The role play centre changes its function with the childrens growing interests, from bakery to a Chinese takeaway. Children are encouraged to take on different roles, becoming the shopkeeper, the Doctor or the hairdresser. A wide selection of tools and materials within the role play area help to support children’s imaginative play.
