Congleton Nursery: The
Pre-school room...
As children approach their third birthday they move through into the Pre-school room. At Daintry Hall we work with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which encompasses all areas of learning. Children are encouraged to go at their own pace and follow their own interests, using a variety of different mediums and every day objects to experiment with and to make their own decisions and choices.
At circle time children ‘show’ objects from home and tell their friends about them, increasing their self confidence and ability to listen to others. Organised group activities encourage the children to co-operate, take turns and share with their friends.
Children are encouraged to have a love of books and enjoy regular story times with the use of puppets, story sacks and other props. They look forward to music time and to using the instruments they have made! Children soon build up a repertoire of songs and rhymes they will share with you at home!
Children use mathematical language alongside purposeful, first hand experiences. They match cups, saucers and plates in the café or order tea or coffee for 50p! Children are encouraged to count and sort, numbers, shapes and colours with a variety of everyday and natural objects; recording their findings in graphs, charts and work sheets.
Our constantly changing role play area encourages the children to develop stories and their theatrical talents! Children understand the purpose of writing as a form of communication and act as ‘writers’ within their play. They note appointments in the diary at the hairdressers or take orders for meals at the restaurant! Children are encouraged to write and recognise their own name in preparation for their departure to school.
Daintry Hall Day Nursery is registered with Cheshire East Council, to receive the Early Years Foundation Stage grant for children, which commences from the term after their third birthday. More information is available on request.
